CLARKSVILLE, TN − Laurie Matta, Chief Financial Officer for the City of Clarksville, has announced she is leaving the City after 12 years of service.

Matta’s leadership has contributed to the City’s Finance & Revenue Department receiving the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Award of Excellence in Finance Reporting for 10 consecutive years.

As she prepares to depart for her next home in Colorado, Matta said she’ll always have fond memories of living in Clarksville and working with the City of Clarksville’s many skilled employees. “It’s been a true pleasure working for this incredible City,” Matta said. “Clarksville really is a big city with a small-town feel. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with open arms, and it didn’t take long for this community and its people to find a lasting place in my heart. Throughout my time here, I’ve had the privilege of meeting some truly remarkable individuals, many of whom I’m proud to now call friends,” she said.

Matta has a passion for her work and has often called springtime budget preparation season her favorite time of the year, as she enjoyed working with the Mayor’s Office and all City departments to create a balanced City budget.

“One of the highlights of my role has always been budget season, and I believe we’re in a strong position as we move forward with a balanced budget for Fiscal Year 2026,” Matta said. “I’ll be staying on to guide the process through the City Council Standing Committee phase and, as needed, continue supporting the mayor in presenting the budget. After that process is completed, I’ll be leaving the City’s finances in the extremely capable hands of my Deputy Chief Financial Officer, Christen Wilcox.”

Wilcox will serve as the City’s Interim CFO after Matta’s departure. “For nearly five years, Christen has been right beside me every step of the way, and I have full confidence in her ability to lead without missing a beat,” Matta said.

Mayor Joe Pitts said Matta’s professionalism has been a tremendous asset to the City of Clarksville and added she has been a highly valued friend to many at City Hall through the years. “Laurie Matta has been a trusted advisor for me, city council members, city departments, and the public, on matters pertaining to the finances of our city,” Pitts said. “She has set professionally high standards and provided the leadership to ensure there were never questions about how the taxpayers’ money is spent.

“She was instrumental in so much of the progress we’ve made in the past five years, including the implementation of the Transportation 2020+ master plan, the ACT (Arts, Culture and Tourism) Authority that will give us a new performing arts center, and so much more. Laurie Matta has been an asset to our city and her future home in Colorado is getting the consummate professional,” Pitts said.

After the City’s Fiscal 2026 budget is adopted, Pitts said a search will begin for a new chief financial officer for the City of Clarksville.
