Update, 9:35 a.m.: The bus has been removed and the roadway is back open, according to police.

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A Clarksville Transit System bus caught fire downtown this morning.

The fire happened at Hiter and Franklin Streets, according to Assistant Chief Michael Rios.

At approximately 7:51 a.m., the bus engine compartment caught fire, and the driver pulled over, according to Clarksville Police spokesman Scott Beaubien.

All of the passengers were able to get off the bus, and no one was injured.

Clarksville Fire Rescue is on scene and has extinguished the flames. Currently Hiter is blocked and Franklin Street between Hiter and Third Street is shut down. Police are asking the public to avoid the area.
