CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – There are two candidates on the ballot in August for Montgomery County Circuit Court Clerk:
- Wendy Davis, R, incumbent
- Faye Rennell Hobson, I
Clarksville Now reached out to both candidates to ask where they stand on issues in the race. Here are their responses.
Wendy Davis: “I have served in the clerk’s office since 1996 working in all aspects of the office. One of the best parts of this office is offering guidance on court procedures that helps everyone with everyday questions. Without my amazing staff this task would be difficult.
“We have been working diligently on E-Flex, which will be the system we will use for our E-Filing. It is an intense set-up to make sure it will serve anyone that uses it in the best manner possible. I can’t wait to go live on this project.
“Recently I worked with the Tennessee League of Women Voters to help give our public a better understanding of restoration of their voter rights. We don’t see hardly any of these documents come through our office and I thought it was important to educate the public. Once all the information is compiled we will add it to our website.
“We will continue to be transparent, and improve in any aspect possible. Our goal is to serve with kindness, compassion and understanding.”
Faye Hobson: “I took it upon myself to meet with two (2) Realtors in Clarksville, Tennessee and asked them various questions. Surprisingly, both informed me that the position of Circuit Court Clerk is not of interest to them because the position has no direct impact on Realtors or Developers. Such a statement but a bitter taste in my mouth, but it also made me realize citizens of Clarksville TRULY do not know the important roles of the Circuit Court Clerk and I have taken it upon myself to educate as many people as I possibly can. To say that the Circuit Court Clerk position is not important, is to say OUR UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION is not important. The Circuit Court Clerk is a Constitutional Officer of the Court and is elected to four (4) year terms. The (“Circuit Court Clerk”) is responsible for adhering to very important Constitutional and Statutory Authorities. The duties and authorities of a CCC are outlined in TCA 18-1-105 and TCA 18-1-108. Well if this is the way most people feel, perhaps that’s why such an office on require a high school diploma and not degrees in accounting, human resource, law, criminal justice and so on.”
