CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Most people would agree that 2020 has been a rough year, and some Clarksvillians have decided to end things on a high note by getting in the holiday spirit a little early.

Many Clarksville residents have decided to put their decorations out early this year in an attempt to spread a little extra holiday cheer.

Mark and Donna are one such pair. Their home in the Peacher’s Mill area, rebuilt with wood reclaimed from a local tobacco barn, is lit up with hundreds of lights and moving figures, one of which is already counting the days till Christmas.

“I think it looks like Times Square meets the Griswolds, and Christmas is our most favorite time of the year,” said Mark. “You need to keep the Christmas spirit alive.”

“You need something happy to look forward to. People enjoy taking pictures and it makes them happy, you need something,” said Donna.

Mark and Donna’s fantastical display is no small feat. According to Donna, this season required nearly 250 AA batteries; however, she said it is well worth it to enjoy her favorite holiday to the fullest.

“It gives everybody happiness, and you need that. This time of year, with everything going on, 2020 has not been the best of years,” said Donna. “People ask, ‘Are you going to put your decorations up?’ Of course we are.”

Clarksville as a whole is beginning to catch the Christmas bug, with city workers beginning to put lights up on the Riverwalk for the annual Christmas on the Cumberland light display.
