CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Ky. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Christian County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) has seen an increase in scam attempts and scam victims in the past few weeks.
These scams are related to:
-IRS (Tax Scam)
-Impersonating a Law Enforcement Officer
CCSO said the callers threaten the victim with talk of arrest warrants, failure to pay taxes, and failure to report for jury duty, and then demand over-the-phone payments using prepaid cards such as MoneyPak, Green Dot, Target, or iTunes gift cards.
The Christian County Sheriff’s Office said they will not call and ask for payment for any of these alleged infractions.
“Our agency, as well as other law enforcement agencies DO NOT operate this way and will never ask you to pay for any services using any prepaid cards such as these,” CCSO said in a press release. “We are asking that if anyone has received these types of phone calls, to please contact us or your local law enforcement agency BEFORE you send any money. This is the time of the year when people are getting their tax refunds. These scammers are fully aware of that, and are trying to take advantage.”
