CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A couple has been charged after authorities discovered that they were allowing their children to live in a home filled with feces, trash, food, and broken glass.

According to arrest warrants for Kristy and James Fielder, a worker with the Department of Children’s Services requested that police perform a welfare check at the Cherry Tree Dr. home March 14.

The officer arrived to assess the living conditions of the home, and James Fielder allowed the officer inside.

Police found food and animal feces on the floors of several rooms, as well as trash and dirty dishes strewn across counters in the kitchen.

Broken glass was found in a child’s bedroom.

The officer also discovered that the bathroom sink was not working and an extension cord was placed next to the water-covered flood, creating a hazard.

Many objects were found leaning against walls that could have potentially fallen on the young children.

In addition to the Fielders and their children, three dogs and four cats were also living in the house.

DCS deemed the home unlivable for the children and had them removed.

38-year-old Kristy Fielder and 33-year-old James Fielder were arrested and charged with child abuse and neglect. Their bonds were each set at $30,000.
