CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library highlighted their Imagination Library Wednesday, June 25 with a “Hats Off to Reading” featuring celebrity readers which drew about 200 children and their parents.
Channel 4 Chief Meteorologist Lisa Spencer and Kirby Cannon, APSU Head Football Coach each read books to children at the library. Gnash, the Nashville Predators mascot and the APSU mascot, the Governor also read to the children with a little help from volunteers.
Another celebrity reader included an Imperial Stormtrooper from Star Wars and the Children’s Story Time Theatre at the library was filled with therapy dogs from Tender Paws. Children were allowed to read to the dogs and to also interact with them.
Montgomery County Imagination Library working with the Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation mails one free age-appropriate book a month to children from birth to five years old. Dolly Parton began the book mailing program in Tennessee in 1996 and it has spread to all 95 counties in the state.
There is no restriction on joining the program and any child between birth and five years old living n Montgomery County qualifies for the free service, but must sign up. The Imagination Library board has been working to increase the number of children enrolled in the program in Montgomery County.
