CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Two children struck by a car on Turner Lane Sunday morning are reported in stable condition at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in Nashville.

According to police, a six-year-old boy and his seven-year-old sister were playing inside a cardboard box on Turner Lane near Gale Drive when it was struck by a driver who did not stop.

The children were transported by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt from a nearby designated landing zone at Glenellen Elementary School.

The driver was later located and interviewed. Police said there is no information at this time indicating that the driver had any knowledge that the children were inside the box.

Naomi Sinks, the grandmother of the children told WKRN News 2 the parents just took their eyes off the two momentarily. “We don’t let them play in the street. We always tell them stay in the yard and play. We try to keep an eye on the kids, but kids will be kids.”

The Department of Children’s Services is assisting with the investigation, which is ongoing.
