CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW.COM) – Our previous story on raising backyard chickens mentioned some of the options for a chicken coop and run. Thanks to Montgomery County Farmers Co-Op, this just got easier.
As part of the Clarksville Flea Market this Saturday, you can win a chicken coop starter kit by simply sending a text.
This is part of the ClarksvilleNow presentation on getting started with backyard chickens, happening Saturday, May 14 at 10:00 a.m. at Clarksville Speedway.
News Director Rob Selkow (who began raising backyard chickens a couple of years ago) will take beginners through the process of getting started with chickens. Following the presentation a winner will be selected to win this Aspen Pet Peak Roof Chicken Coop.
“This is a perfect starter kit for two hens,” Selkow said. “It requires minor assembly with a screwdriver and makes a nice little coop for two hens.” He stresses two because the manufacturer says it can house up to four, but Selkow thinks that’s a little tight based on the size of the coop.
“I also recommend you add a little run with a top, so your hens can roost outside,” he said.
The coop includes two inside roosting polls, a pull-out tray for cleaning and a two compartment nesting box.
To enter, text the word “eggs” to 77000. The contest is open until 12:59 p.m. Saturday, May 14 and the winner will be contacted Monday, May 16.
