CHEATHAM COUNTY, Tenn. -A Cheatham County high school student faces charges for allegedly raping a female student earlier this week.

WKRN News 2 reports that the alleged incident occurred Tuesday, Feb. 25 at Cheatham County Central High School.

The male suspect was taken into custody later the same day.

School officials released a statement Thursday which read in part, “Student safety is the primary goal for Cheatham County schools. Upon learning of any incident that puts our students at risk, the local school and central office immediately take action to investigate the alleged occurrence.”

School officials said the investigation has been turned over to authorities and any discipline for the accused student will be handled through the school disciplinary process.
