CHEATHAM COUNTY, Tenn (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Cheatham County Animal Control, located on Sam’s Creek Road, is seeking emergency assistance as they prepare to temporarily close their shelter at the end of the month.

Beginning March 30, Cheatham County’s shelter will close for two weeks to address a mold problem in the facility. Before that time, staff is working diligently to find homes for the 15 dogs and two cats currently in the facility.

In order to house all the facility’s animals, Cheatham County Animal Control is looking for the assistance of short term fosters who can care for a pet for the two-week period.

Fosters will be provided with all the things needed to care for their foster dog or cat, including food, bowls and leashes.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, officials at Cheatham County Animal Control believe that the companionship of a pet might be welcome for many.

“With everybody taking the necessary precautions and following the guidance of what the government and our counties are telling us, and people are at home and they have some time. A lot of people are working from home right now, it’s a great time to bring in a friend to hang out with you,” Cheatham County Animal Control Director Kristin Reid in an interview with WKRN.

Cheatham County Animal Control has also suspended in-take as they prepare for their two-week shutdown.

Those interested in fostering a cat or dog can contact animalcontrol@cheathamcountytn.gov or call (615) 792-3647.
