Charles Edgar Malone, 88, of Clarksville, TN, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2015, at his residence.

Charlie was born on September 4, 1926, in Watertown, TN to the late Vernon Malone and Pattye Evins Malone. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ann Dodson Malone; son, Tom Malone; and brother, Will T. Malone.

Graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Sango Cemetery with Dr. Larry Riley and Dr. John David Laida officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, and from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home.

Charlie was a 1949 graduate of Vanderbilt University, where he was a member of the Vanderbilt Basketball Team, the Rebounders Club (former Vanderbilt University basketball players) and Sigma Chi Fraternity. Charlie had a long and successful career in advertising. After graduating from Vanderbilt, he worked briefly for the Birmingham Post in Birmingham, AL, before moving to Clarksville where he went to work for WJZM. He moved up in the business from the Managing Partner in 1968 to the Owner/Manager in 1978. He sold WJZM and retired in 1990.

During his career, Charlie received numerous awards in advertising to include, the 2002 American Advertising Federation/ Barton A. Cummings Gold Medal Award, 1983 NAF Silver Medal Award, 1994 7th District Harry Hoile Governor’s Award, 1995 7th District Otis Dodge Award, 1997 7th District Bolton MacVicar Education Award, and was Elected to the 7th District Hall of Fame in 1999.

Charlie also taught over 2,400 students during his tenure teaching Dale Carnegie Classes for 16 years, specializing in Sales and Leadership Courses.

Charlie valued his service to the Clarksville Community through the organizations that he was a part of which include, 1966 President of the Kiwanis Club, 1970 President of the Clarksville Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Montgomery county Industrial Board for 3 years, 1976-78 President of the Tennessee Outdoor Writers, Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees for 17 years, and the First Baptist Church of Clarksville College Young People Department Superintendent for 6 years. During his accomplished career, Charlie enjoyed being a competitive tennis player, badminton player, and avid fisherman.

Charlie is survived by his daughter, Charlsie (John) Halliburton of Clarksville, TN; two grandchildren, Ann Halliburton (Terry) Ketch of Brentwood, TN and Charles Troy (Amy) Halliburton; and five great-grandchildren, David Troy Ketch, Lauren Virginia Ketch, Hannah Beaumont Ketch, John Charles Halliburton, and Claire Malone Halliburton.

The family of Charles Malone wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to his devoted caregiver, Mary Birdwell, for her love and dedication to him.

Pallbearers will be Troy Halliburton, Terry Ketch, Scott Dodson, Kevin Caldwell, David Coley, Chad Coley, Scott Hazzard, and Mickey Dickens.
