CUNNINGHAM, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Central Civitan Club held its 115th Lone Oak Picnic at the picnic grounds on Highway 13 on Saturday.

Even with the temperatures sitting in the mid-90’s and a heat index over 100, organizers estimate that more than 1,000 visitors stopped by. Close to 60 Civitan members along with family and friends also braved the heat to keep the event running smoothly.

There were lots of family activities, especially for the kids, live music with the Back Lot Pickers, pork and chicken barbecue, and of course lots of water to stay hydrated. A classic car and truck cruise-in and a silent auction were also part of the fun.

In an election year, the picnic is known for drawing a number of political hopefuls and supporters. Several elected officials, and those with plans of running for office spoke to the crowd.

“We kicked off a new tradition at the 115th annual Lone Oak Picnic,” said Rob Reynolds president of the Central Civitan Club. “We started selling thick bologna sandwiches, and if you’re from this side of the Cumberland River, you know what I’m talking about.”

Proceeds help support many organizations, including Junior Civitan at Montgomery Central Middle School, BSA Troop 546, the Cunningham Volunteer Fire Service, Palmyra Volunteer Fire Service, Buddy Ball, and Special Olympics.
