CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Centerstone, a nonprofit health system specializing in mental health and substance use disorder treatments, held an open house and ribbon cutting for its new Walk-In Center and Crisis Stabilization Unit on Tuesday.

This new facility will provide immediate, around-the-clock support for adults 18 and older experiencing mental health crises. The Walk-In Center and Crisis Stabilization Unit will offer short-term, intensive treatment in a safe, therapeutic environment with no appointments needed. This is the first such crisis care facility in Clarksville; previously, clients had to go to Nashville for such services.

Ben Middleton, regional chief executive officer at Centerstone, thanked the State of Tennessee for their support. “Their investment in community mental health will help us save lives right here in Montgomery County.

“People who need a crisis stabilization for a little bit, they can come here and we treat them with dignity. They’re going to see that we’ve got state-of-the-art … 21st century technology,” Middleton said in his speech at the ribbon-cutting. “It’s what they deserve. We want to make sure they’re safe when they’re with us. We want to make sure we do everything that is necessary to make their experience a positive experience in the moment of their crisis.”

How it works

For the Walk-In Center, “anyone in Montgomery County or the surrounding area can walk in if they are their loved one are in mental health, substance use or suicide crisis, and we’ll assess what’s going on,” Becky Stoll, senior vice president of crisis services at Centerstone, told Clarksville Now.

If need be, individuals can stay at the center for up to 23 hours. If crisis care is needed, individuals can go across a walkway to the Crisis Stabilization Unit, where they can stay for three to five days for medication management, therapy and connections to ongoing resources, Stoll said.

“With this new walk-in center and CSU, we’re ensuring that no one in our community has to face a mental health crisis alone,” she said.

The Walk-In Center and Crisis Stabilization Unit, located at 812 Greenwood Ave., is expected to open in July. For more information, please visit centerstone.org or call 877-HOPE123.
