CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A recent case study of Austin Peay State University (APSU) released by Public Agenda reveals the positive influence leadership at the school has had on faculty and staff.

Seven Practices Of Enlightened Leadership In Higher Education: A Case Study of Austin Peay State University focuses mainly on President Tim Hall and former Provost Dr. Tristan Denley, their administrative efforts, and the effects their programs have had on the school’s environment.

Initially, the case study was centered on Degree Compass, a course recommendation tool developed at APSU, which Denley spearheaded. As the study progressed, the unique leadership at APSU became the highlight.

Faculty lauded the practices of both Hall and Denley, saying the atmosphere of the university is no longer hostile, but reflects understanding, communication, and innovation. Faculty members feel free to share ideas, and many praised Hall for his ability to simply listen and take their considerations and suggestions seriously.

However, many fear old habits and ill feelings toward administration may return if leadership were to change.

Those conducting the case study were surprised by their findings, noting that many schools they have studied have not upheld such positive communication practices.
