Updated with new details from Carmax.

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLENOW) – CarMax is planning to build a store on an extension of Merchants Boulevard from Wilma Rudolph Boulevard.

The planned site is 796,000 square feet (18.27 acres) with a 45,000-square-foot building, according to site plans filed with the Clarksville-Montgomery County Regional Planning Commission. The lot will host 203 parking spaces and employ about 155 people. The land is currently owned by Robert Clark.

The plans include extending Merchant’s Boulevard from its current terminus just past Ashley/Furniture Connection through the site. That could ultimately connect to Trenton Road to the west, though that is not reflected on the site plan. The site is just south of 101st Airborne Division Parkway.

CarMax public relations told Clarksville Now the site has been identified as a potential good fit for the company’s growth plan, but it’s still in the early stages.

CarMax is a national used car business that buys and sells under a haggle-free system. They have Nashville-area locations at Rivergate in Madison, on Powell Avenue, and at Cool Springs in Franklin.
