Carl Eugene Gadsey, age 86, of Clarksville, died peacefully on Oct. 23, 2023, with his wife holding his hand. They were in Washington State visiting their son.
Carl was born on October 8, 1937, to Carl Eugene and Bessie Baker Gadsey, who preceded him in death along with three sisters. A native of Nashville, he graduated from Isaac Litton High, MTSU, and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. After pastoring several church circuits, he served as Minister of Bethel Methodist from 1968-74.
After earning a Master’s degree in Psychology, he became a Licensed Professional Counselor at Harriet Cohn Mental Health Center and later counseled military families at the Family Advocacy Program at Fort Campbell. Carl was a member of Madison Street Methodist, the Masonic Lodge 761, Montgomery County Historical Society, Friends of Dunbar Cave, and Tennessee Trails. He was Lt. Governor of the Kiwanis Regional District 14 in 1978-79 and a Vigil Member of Boy Scouts’ Order of the Arrow. As a tent camper who later enjoyed cruises and land tours, Carl visited all 50 states (Alaska 20 times!!!) and 63 countries. Carl enjoyed gardening, leather work, and mask-making. He loved many types of music, especially jazz, and enjoyed attending local concerts and events. As a lifelong learner and great storyteller, Carl was a gifted, creative, and compassionate man who will be deeply missed. Gadsey is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Pamela Boyd Gadsey; his son, of whom he was very proud, Kevin Gadsey; and four wonderful nieces. Visitation will be held at Madison Street Methodist Chapel from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 10, and 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11. The Celebration of Carl’s Life will be at Noon on Saturday in the Chapel.
