ST. LOUIS, Mo. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – On Tuesday, Nov. 5, the St. Louis Cardinals solidified their management for years to come. During an afternoon press conference at Busch Stadium, St. Louis announced contract extensions for President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak, Vice President & General Manager Michael Girsch and Manager Mike Shildt.
Under Mozeliak, the Cardinals have advanced to the playoffs seven times, captured two N.L. Championships and a World Series title in 2011. During Mozeliak’s tenure, only the Los Angeles Dodgers have played in more postseason games than the Cardinals. Before being the first-ever President of Baseball Operations for the Cardinals, Mozeliak joined the St. Louis organization in 1995 and served as Senior Vice President & General Manager from October of 2007 to June of 2017.
Girsh first came on board with the Cardinals in 2006 and was named as Vice President and General Manager in June of 2017. This past season, he helped oversee the team’s first division title since 2015.
After taking over for Mike Matheny as the interim manager on July 15, 2018, Shildt has excelled. He was named Monday, Nov. 4 as a finalist for the BBWAA N.L. Manager of the Year Award after leading the Cardinals to a share of its 12th N.L. Central title in his first full season at the helm. St. Louis finished the regular season 91-71 and fell to the eventual World Series winning Washington Nationals in the NLDS.
The Cardinals also announced that their entire Major League coaching staff will return in 2020 including Hitting Coach Jeff Albert, First Base Coach Stubby Clapp, Bullpen Coach Bryan Eversgerd, Assistant Hitting Coach Jobel Jimenez, Pitching Coach Mike Maddux, Bench Coach Oliver Marmol, Third Base Coach Ron “Pop” Warner and Coach Willie McGee.
