CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) is planning a series of events in recognition of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Recent news reports indicate the rate of domestic violence in the nation is rising, and MCSO hopes these events will raise the profile of legal remedies for victims and their families as well as highlighting the agencies that serve victims in the community and statewide.

The first Annual “Remember My Name” Open Car and Truck Show, co-sponsored by James Corlew Chevrolet and Cadillac, will benefit Safehouse, a shelter for victims and their families. The event will be held on Saturday, October 11, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of Veterans Plaza, 350 Pageant Lane.

The Silent Witness Project, a powerful and disturbing exhibit reflecting the stories of victims of domestic violence who died as a result of these unspeakable acts, will be on display in the William O. Beach Civic Hall, also located in Veterans Plaza.

The Clarksville Clothesline Project and Dreams to Screams will also be on exhibit. Lunch will be provided free for participants, while supplies last.

There will be a silent auction to benefit Safehouse as well as activities for children and families.

Registration for the car show will be held from 7:30-10:30 a.m. and is $25 per car and $20 for a second entry. Judging begins at noon with awards at 2 p.m.
