CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A car caught fire and crashed into a building on Guthrie Highway Friday night.

At about 7:08 p.m., Montgomery County Fire Service responded to a car fire that turned into a commercial structure fire at 4235 Guthrie Hwy., the Old Castle APG masonry supply store, northeast of Clarksville.

The Hyundai was driving down Guthrie Highway when the brakes caught fire, according to MCFS. The driver pumped the brakes trying to stop as she pulled in the parking lot, and the car was on fire when it crashed into the awning. The driver escaped without injury.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, keeping it from extending into the building, MCFS reported.

Building and Codes was called to the scene. The vehicle was removed and the awning was shored up. No injuries were reported at the scene.

MCFS Stations 17, 18 and 16 and the Rescue Squad responded.
