CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Clarksville Indivisible gathered Friday, Sept. 25, to honor the memory of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Close to two dozen people came together in what was called a “We Dissent” candlelight vigil at the newly installed Tennessee Triumph statue on Public Square.

“We wanted to hold a candlelight vigil to honor the legacy that she left and the work that she did. To remember the amazing life that she led and the example that she set,” said Joy Rice, Clarksville Indivisible organizer.

Those attending were invited to read quotes from “the Notorious RBG,” as Rice called her, saying she would have scathing dissents and arguments and had some of the absolute best quotes, especially for women and equality.

A couple of the quotes shared were “fight for the things you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you,” and “my mother told me to be a lady, and for her, that meant be your own person, be independent.”

Ginsburg passed away Sept. 18 at the age of 87 from complications of metastatic pancreatic cancer. She served on the Supreme Court 27 years after being appointed by President Bill Clinton in 1993. She was known and praised for her support and fight for equality for women during her career.
