CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) The Montgomery County Election Commission has announced that seven candidates have qualified for the 2019 Special Called Primary and Election for the Tennessee State Senate District 22.

Candidates include Republicans Betty Burchett, Jeff Burkhart, Jason Knight, Bill Powers and Democrat Juanita Charles whose names will appear on the March 7 Primary ballot, with Independent candidates Doyle Clark and David Cutting only appearing on the April 23 General Election ballot.

The District 22 Senate seat was recently vacated by Mark Green who won the 7th District Congressional Election in November. On January 14 the Montgomery County Commission voted to appoint Rosalind Kurita as the interim Tennessee Senator until a special election could be held.

The District 22 State Senate seat represents constituents in Montgomery, Houston and Stewart Counties.
