CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Tennessee State Senator and Republican gubernatorial candidate Mae Beavers spent the day in Clarksville Thursday visiting with supporters and sharing her conservative message with local residents. She topped off her day speaking to the Right Way Clarksville organization at G’s Pancake House on Riverside Drive.

Beavers, who has been in the Senate since 2002, spoke to a group of around 30 people about leading the fight against a state income tax, sponsoring a bill to cut sales tax, and if elected, her plan to repeal Governor Bill Haslam’s gas tax recently passed by lawmakers.

Beavers said the state is on record for a $770 million surplus this year. “I just don’t believe it’s right or fair to tax people when you’ve already got the money,” Beavers’ said.

The candidate also told those gathered that she is pro life, pro Second Amendment, stands strong against illegal immigration, supports more technical training in schools, is in favor of removing burdensome regulations on businesses and passed a law to protect the privacy of Tennesseans.
