GRUNDY COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – A bus carrying 40 Marines who were on their way to Nashville for Marine Week caught on fire on Interstate 24 West in Grundy County.
The roadway was shut down for a period of time as crews responded to the scene Monday.
“The Marines were safely exited from the bus. No Marines or bystanders were injured in the accident,” said Amanda Gambill, a spokeswoman for Marine Week.
A Grundy County school bus responded to the scene and picked up the Marines.
It is unknown why the charter bus caught on fire. Officials said it was not involved in a crash.
The Marines are expected to arrive in Nashville later Monday afternoon.
