CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) After over 20 years of service in the Montgomery County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), Director Jerry Buchanan will be retiring December 31. A retirement celebration for Buchanan was held Wednesday at the EMA office.

Close to 100 people, which included law enforcement, first responders, firefighters, along with city and county officials stopped by to thank Buchanan for his service and to wish him well. He also received a number of honors and recognition from both local and state officials.

During the past 20 years with EMA he became Deputy Director in 2002, Interim Director in 2012 and Director in 2013. Buchanan also served as Chief of Montgomery County’s Volunteer Fire Service and Chairman of the Montgomery County Local Emergency Planning Committee.

Buchanan talked about leaving his job at EMA. “It’s been enjoyable and a pleasure working for Montgomery County, but I’m looking forward to retiring at the end of the year and just stepping back and taking it a little easier. I’m going to try and enjoy each day,” Buchanan said.

Buchanan added that he is still going to stay connected with the Woodlawn Volunteer Fire Service.

There has not been an announcement from Montgomery County on who will be taking over Buchanan’s post as EMA director.
