Updated, 1:15 p.m.: The Tennessee Department of Transportation followed up with Clarksville Now and acknowledged that Clarksville is one of the fastest growing cities in the state, which does present challenges for the city’s infrastructure.

The press release then read, “TDOT and the city have been meeting regularly with Buc-ee’s about their plans to open a location in Clarksville. We remain committed to discussing the necessary traffic improvements that will safely accommodate Clarksville’s rapid population growth and Buc-ee’s business plan so that the project can move forward.”

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – After months of anticipation, Buc-ee’s Travel Center has withdrawn their site review after failing to come to terms with the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT).

Director of the Regional Planning Commission, Jeffrey Tyndall, confirmed the report and provided Clarksville Now with an excerpt from their email requesting withdrawal.

The excerpt read, “Buc-ee’s is no longer confident in their ability to come to an agreement regarding the necessary traffic improvements in the near future.”

The necessary traffic improvements that Buc-ee’s is referring to is the work that needed to be done to build up the infrastructure on Exit 1, Trenton Road and Tylertown Road before they could place a 77,000-square foot building in Clarksville.

Clarksville Now has reached out to the Tennessee Department of Transportation for additional information.
