CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A local 11-year-old boy fighting cancer has been chosen as the grand marshal for the Clarksville Lighted Christmas Parade.

WKRN News 2 reports that young Garrett Whipple would have been grand marshal at last year’s event if it had not been cancelled because of inclement weather.

Garrett has suffered from brain cancer since he was 6, and is currently undergoing chemotherapy.

After the disappointment of missing last year’s parade, he said that he is most excited about riding in a convertible and seeing his friends who are watching.

The Clarksville Lighted Christmas Parade will take place at 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 5. For more information, see the full story here.
