CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A body was discovered Friday morning on the 900 block of Power Street.
According to a news release, an individual found an unresponsive person lying on the ground by a building around 9 a.m.
EMS responded to the scene and determined that 31-year-old Donnie Kennedy of Cedar Hill was deceased. He appeared to have injuries that were consistent with an assault. An autopsy later revealed that Kennedy died as a result of a stab wound.
Throughout the investigation, police named 30-year-old Demetrius Fredrick Cobbin of Clarksville as a person of interest. During his interview, he admitted to being in an altercation with the victim.
According to an arrest warrant, Cobbin told police he and Kennedy were smoking crack cocaine together throughout the evening.
They drove the victim’s truck to Blue Sky Mobile Home Park where they got into a physical altercation because the victim was upset and demanded money for gas, according to Cobbin’s statement.
A witness told police he saw a black male (Cobbin) chasing the victim around the truck and fighting before the victim ran off toward the area where he was later found dead.
Based on statements from Cobbin and a witness, police arrested Cobbin and charged him with criminal homicide.
The investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Chris Nolder at 931-648-0656 Ext 5341 or the CrimeStoppers TIPS Hotline at 931-645-TIPS (8477).
