CLARKSVILLE, TN – Blood Assurance has been called upon to help hospitals in and around North Texas following severe storms Saturday night, including a tornado that killed at least seven people and left more than 100 others injured.
Blood Assurance is part of the national Blood Emergency Readiness Corps (BERC), which is composed of 35 community blood centers across the nation, with a commitment to collecting extra blood units on a rotating, “on call” schedule. BERC’s mission is to provide immediate blood support to areas experiencing critical shortages due to disasters like tornadoes.
“We are thankful for our donors who are hearing the news and wanting to help by booking appointments in the days ahead,” said Garry Allison, Senior Vice President of Operations for Blood Assurance. “Our thoughts are with those affected by these devastating storms, and we are committed to providing the crucial blood supplies needed to save lives and aid in their recovery.”

To be eligible to donate, you must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with parental consent), weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good health. Donors are asked to drink plenty of fluids and eat a hearty meal prior to donating.
