CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Republican 7th District U.S. Congressman Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee hosted a veterans breakfast with Republican Arkansas U.S. Senator Tom Cotton Thursday at the Looking Glass restaurant in Clarksville.

Blackburn is running for the U.S. Senate seat in Tennessee held by Senator Bob Corker, who did not seek reelection, and Senator Cotton is a former 101st soldier who served at Fort Campbell. The pair spoke about support for the military to a crowd of about 60 people.

Blackburn said one of the top issues she hears about on the campaign trail is support for the military, making sure there are funds available and making sure the needs of the military and their families are being met.

Speaking to the veterans, both Blackburn and Cotton shared their support for the deployment of Fort Campbell soldiers to the southwestern U.S. border in response to the migrant caravan now moving through Mexico toward the U.S.

“We have to send that message that you cannot come to the U.S. this way. There’s a right way and a wrong way to enter the United States and this is the wrong way to say we are coming as an invading force,” Blackburn said.

“We’ve got to secure our border and stop people from coming to our country illegally. If it requires active duty troops on the border, we’ve done that in our past, we’ll do it again to make sure we keep our country safe,” Cotton said.
