CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – U.S. Representative Marsha Blackburn, R.-Tenn. visited Clarksville Wednesday, Aug. 7 to address the Clarksville Young Professionals and meet with constituents at the Open House of her new downtown district office.
Prior to these events, Blackburn sat down with ClarksvilleNow to discuss matters concerning Clarksville-Montgomery County and the surrounding area.
While Congress is on hiatus for the duration of the summer, Blackburn said this is the perfect time to meet with constituents and local officials to gather opinions about the state of affairs. She said many have voiced concerns about unemployment, a lack of job growth, and the implementation of Obama Care.
Blackburn, a firm opponent of Obama Care, has constructed a bill (HR2809) in an attempt to delay Obama Care through a four-step process: delay, defund, repeal, replace. “It is going to be a patient-centered, free market oriented replacement,” she said of her alternative.
She also addressed the current situation at Hemlock Semiconductor plant in Clarksville, which has yet to be resolved. “We’re as frustrated as a lot of the Clarksville citizens are with how that has played out,” she said. Blackburn recently met with officials at the plant to discuss the repositioning of work there, and she said the Economic Development Council has spent time with the plant as well. “We’re waiting for an answer,” Blackburn said.
Blackburn’s new downtown district office is located at 128 N. Second Street, and the public is welcome to call or e-mail the agency with questions, complaints, and concerns. “We’re delighted to be moving into the downtown area. I think it’s going to be more convenient for our constituents and individuals that are coming into the area who need to get to our office,” she said.
