CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A Black history celebration was held at Veterans Plaza on Feb. 27, featuring vendors, live performances, and food sourced by local Black businesses.
Michelle Lowe, organizer for the event, said it was a team effort between the Montgomery County Diversity Task Force, the City of Clarksville, the Clarksville Housing Authority, and the many organizations and businesses that set up tables at the function.
“Black History Month is not about or just for Black people, it’s for everybody,” said Lowe.
The event also featured a reward ceremony for the Recover Our Sons organization, and several displays of talent, such as singing, dancing, rapping and spoken word poetry.
Mayor Jim Durrett attended the event. He said he was inspired by “the drive and desire of people to make sure that their heritage and what their ancestors did is never forgotten.”
“We don’t just pay lip service to diversity in Montgomery County and Clarksville,” said Mayor Joe Pitts, “we truly invest in it and believe in it.”
