Billy Ray South, age 89, of Clarksville, TN passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2023. Celebration of Life will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, August 10, 2023, at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home with Rev. Stewart Salyer officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and again on Thursday from 11 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Billy entered this life on November 13, 1933, in Montgomery County, Tn to the late Buell and Ruth Milam South. He served as a police officer for Clarksville Police Department and retired after 43 years of dedicated service. Billy was a founding member of F.O.P, a member of Bethel Cumberland Presbyterian Church and formerly worked at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Polly Ann South; siblings, Buell South, Jr., Garner South, Walter South, Floyd South, Eidene Karhoff, and Mattie Edgin. Survivors include his daughter, Karen Rone; grandchildren, Joshua (Jennifer) Sawyer, Caleb (Misty) Sawyer, Isaac (Roseanna) Flowers, Matthew (Amy) Rone, Jennifer Davis, and Merideth (Clint) Chapman; great-grandchildren, Taylor (Aaron) Reenock, Kaitlin Hutson, Rylee Sawyer, Alyssa Sawyer, Laney Sawyer, Kailyn Sawyer, Lindsey Davis, Ethan Rone, and great-great-grandchildren, Carter Reenock, Cohen Reenock, and Eliza Rone.
Memorials may be made to the Fraternal Order of Police, 2576 N Ford St, Clarksville, TN 37042. Pallbearers will be members of the Clarksville Police Department.
