CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Billy Burgett has announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination to the Montgomery County Commission, District 14.

Burgett is a lifelong resident of Tennessee, living in District 14 for 15 years.

Working in the manufacturing transportation industry for 40 plus years, his experience spans entry-level positions to managing up to 500 employees. Burgett recently retired from Hendrickson Trailer and said he is ready to give back to the community and make the position of county commissioner his full-time job.

Burgett has volunteered with various groups including City Council members and county commissioners addressing litter and trash problems. He has picked up trash along many miles of our streets, greenways and parks. He believes our infill and growth should include more green spaces, playgrounds and clean energy.

He said he believes our school system should be fully funded to prepare students for institutions of higher learning and the work force. “This includes pay increases for our teachers and efficient, insightful spending when building new schools,” he said.

Burgett said he wants to help families improve their quality of life. “Any couple working full-time should be able to afford adequate housing and healthcare for their family,” he said. Although there are many companies moving into our county, Burgett advocates that they should be vetted for potential salary and benefits before making deals with taxpayer dollars.

District 14 covers St. Bethlehem from the Red River to Interstate 24, along with portions of Needmore and Trenton Road.

Burgett is married to Karen Reynolds, and they have three adult sons. Two of his sons graduated from Rossview High School. One of his sons is in the US Navy stationed on the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson.
