CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Clarksville City Councilman Bill Summers announced Monday that he is running for Mayor of Clarksville in 2014. Summers, and close to 50 of his supporters gathered at the Customs House Museum for the announcement. Summers is currently councilman for Ward 10 and is serving his second term having won reelection in 2010.

When asked why he was seeking the office of Mayor, Summers talked about opportunities for Clarksville. “I believe there are opportunities out there and I believe we’ve missed some of those opportunities. I think with my background, and I’m talking about leadership and planning, that’s what I want to do and I think that way we won’t miss any more opportunities if we do our planning right,” said Summers.

The candidate says the overriding issue in the upcoming election is thoughtful, effective leadership and as Mayor he would bring imagination, innovation, communication, implementation, motivation and evaluation to the office. Summers also talked about what he stood for such as strategic planning, financial responsibility, public safety, infrastructure and small business job creation and retention for the City of Clarksville.

Summers is a retired military officer with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management and a Masters in Management. He is an industrial engineering and technology consultant to the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System as well as a number of universities. He is also a recipient of the 2009 William O.
