Bettye was a fierce advocate for animals, and her precious service dogs, Jax and Chandler, were constant companions who brought her immense joy and comfort. Her passion for animals was just one facet of her big-hearted nature.
She is survived by her daughter, Ashley “Lee” Chandler (Kyle). Bettye’s heart swelled with pride when she spoke of her two beloved granddaughters, Ava Grace and Anistyn Chandler. Bettye is also survived by her sister, Alison “Head” Hurt (Keith).
Bettye’s extended family included her nieces and nephews, Amber Grissom, Mitch Grissom, Mallory “Grissom” Webb, and Hayden Hurt, with whom she shared a special closeness, and a family of cousins, aunts, and uncles who held a special place in her heart. She cherished every moment spent with them.
An alumna of Clarksville High School and Austin Peay State University, Bettye dedicated 30 years to the legal field before discovering her true calling—working with special needs children. Bettye’s students adored her, affectionately calling her their grandmother and best teacher. Her influence on their lives was profound, as shown by the many comments they are leaving on her social media. Many stayed in touch with her after leaving her classroom, a testament to her impact and dedication.
Bettye was always the life of the party, her infectious humor and beautiful smile brightening every room she entered. To know Bettye was to love her, and her warmth, kindness, and joy will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Bettye’s legacy lives on through her family, friends, and the countless lives she touched. Her spirit, love, and laughter will forever remain in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Mt.Carmel cemetery fund, a local animal shelter or a charity supporting special needs children, causes that were close to Bettye’s heart.
Rest in peace, Bettye Lynn Head. You will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.
