CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Best of Clarksville has selected Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County as a 2019 charity partner. The non-profit organization has been making home ownership a reality for Clarksville families for nearly 30 years.
Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County was founded in 1992 and since then has partnered on 98 homes with Clarksville families.
The Christian ministry works with families in need of decent, affordable housing. Participants are selected based on their level of need, willingness to partner, and the ability to repay a zero interest mortgage.
Habitat’s home buyers invest hundreds of hours of their own labor, called sweat equity, working alongside volunteers and other Habitat homeowners, and receive financial education to ready them for ownership.
Habitat is funded through mortgage payments from current homeowners and through the ReStore, a discount home improvement store at 404 Madison St.
The ReStore also provides job coaching and career development for senior citizens, residents with learning and intellectual disabilities, students and those to whom the courts assign pubic service.
The ReStore also partners with area non-profits, for creative and enrichment programs, networking and personal development events. Partners include Arts for Hearts, ArtLink, Big Brothers-Big Sisters, Urban Ministries, Loaves and Fishes and Manifest Magic.
Support from Best of Clarksville will improve and expand our space and capability to expand community engagement opportunities.
The mission of Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County is to eliminate poverty housing from the Clarksville area and to make decent, affordable shelter for all people a matter of conscience.
