Clarksville, Tenn (CLARKSVILLENOW) – This year’s Best of Clarksville event raised over $166,000 for the benefit of local nonprofit organizations. $5,000 of the money raised was presented to the Clarksville-Montgomery County Adult Literacy Council on Thursday, November 14.

Best of Clarksville is held each year at Governors Square Mall on October 3. The event recognizes outstanding local businesses and groups through a system of nomination and popular vote.

A United Way affiliated agency, the Adult Literacy Council has supported the adult education program by offering free one-on-one tutoring, conversational English groups, open computer labs and other services for local individuals. Participants are also provide free educational study materials. They serve over 300 adults per year.

“It was just so exciting to be out there that evening to see the people excited about Best of Clarksville. I’m just glad that our organization was one of the picks for this year’s event,” said Adult Literacy Program Executive Director Velma Jo Williams. To the people who attended Best of Clarksville, she added an enthusiastic, “thank you! Thank you for participating and for coming out. You’ve made our organization, this year, one of the best.”
