CLARKSVILLE, Tenn (CLARKSVILLENOW) – This year’s Best of Clarksville event raised over $166,000 for the benefit of local nonprofit organizations. $10,000 of the money raised was presented to the Imagination Library on Montgomery County on Thursday, November 14.

Best of Clarksville is held each year at Governors Square Mall on October 3. The event recognizes outstanding local businesses and groups through a system of nomination and popular vote.

Founded by Tennessee’s own Dolly Parton, Imagination Library has been part of the Clarksville community since March 2006. The mission of Imagination Library is to increase early childhood literacy in the community by mailing children a free book each month from birth until five years old. It costs the program close to $10,000 dollars each month to mail books to Montgomery County residents.

They also provide a combination or reading, vocabulary work, book ownership and a variety of other programs. They have approximately 9,300 children under five in the program at any given time.
