Bernice Alston, age 92, of Clarksville, TN passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2024.

Celebration of Life will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at Walnut Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Livingston officiating.

Burial will follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.

Bernice entered this life on February 7, 1932, in Cedar Creek, Texas to the late Joe Alexander and Delia Fleming. A cherished member and mother of Walnut Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Bernice’s faith was an important part of who she was. She actively participated in the Kitchen Ministry, where her exceptional talents in baking and cooking brought warmth and joy to countless gatherings. Beyond her contributions at church, Bernice embraced her passions with joy. She was an avid antique shopper. Each piece she collected held a story, much like the memories she crafted with friends and family throughout her lifetime. Her love for gardening was evident in the vibrant blooms and vegetables she nurtured, showcasing her appreciation for the beauty of nature. Friends and family alike will remember Bernice not only for her culinary delights and her green thumb but for the love and laughter she shared so generously. She inspired those around her with her commitment to faith, community, and family.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, SFC (Ret) George Alston, and daughter, Effie Hughes.

Left to cherish her loving memory are her grandchildren, Brenda Hughes, Chanita (Daryle) Hughes Halbert, Aubrey T. Hughes III; great-grandchildren, Jacob and John Halbert; son-in-law, Aubrey T. Hughes, Jr.; sister-in-law, Peggy Alston. Bernice also leaves behind her daughters-in-love, Yvonne Sutfin and Idella King; son-in-love, Leslie Sutfin, Jr.
