Soldiers of the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, were welcomed home as they returned to Fort Campbell, Ky., July 22 after nine months in Eastern Afghanistan.
Family and friends greeted the 274 returning soldiers with cheers and whistles as the troops debarked the plane.
The crowd’s excitement echoed as the hangar doors opened and the Soldiers marched in formation. They stood at attention during the very brief welcome-back speech.
Gen. Mark R. Stammer, acting division senior commander, said, “Thanks for taking care of your soldiers in the field. Now go home and take care of your families.”
