CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The 2022-23 high school baseball regular season concluded this week, and Clarksville-area schools are preparing for what’s to come.

A number of baseball programs are going into the opening round of their district tournaments over the next couple of days. Meanwhile, teams such as Clarksville Academy and Montgomery Central High have begun their playoff journeys.

Clarksville Academy, ranked second in the state by the TBCA, is in the first round of their region tournament. The Cougars came away with a 2-1 record in their district tournament to advance to the next round.

CA won their first two games against Mount Juliet Christian Academy and Friendship Christian School by a combined total of 19-2. The Cougars went on to face Goodpasture Christian in the district championship and struggled throughout the matchup. They lost 7-20, which turned out to be the most runs given up by the team this spring.

Clarksville Academy will look to bounce back against Middle Tennessee Christian School in the opening round of their region tournament. The game is scheduled for Thursday at 6 p.m.

Montgomery Central baseball

As for the Montgomery Central Indians, they are one game into their district tournament.

The Indians entered tournament play as the fourth seed and played their first game on Tuesday, May 2. They faced the fifth seeded White House High.

According to Game Changer, Montgomery Central secured their round one win 7-2. Indians two-way player Gabe Eddington did it all for his team enroute to their victory over White House High.

He started the game on the mound and pitched 6 innings while only giving up 4 hits, 2 earned runs and 3 walks. He also struck out 5 batters.

In addition to his performance on the mound, Eddington went 3 for 4 with a double, 1 run scored and 3 runs batted in. Jordan Johns also had a productive day at the plate for Montgomery Central. Johns had two hits, including a double, 2 runs scored and 1 run batted in.

Montgomery Central is back in action on Wednesday as they face Portland High School. The Indians will look to win back-to-back games, and their contest against Portland is scheduled for 7 p.m.

District 13-AAAA Tournament

The district 13-AAAA tournament is set to begin on Wednesday as the West Creek Coyotes and Springfield Yellow Jackets will compete in a play-in game.

The winner of the matchup will move on to face the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament, Clarksville High, on Thursday. The Coyotes spilt the regular season series with Springfield by a total of one-to-one, so the matchup could go either way.

According to TBCA state rankings, Clarksville High is one of two teams in the district tournament that are ranked top 10. The Wildcats are ranked 5th in the state entering the district tournament.

Meanwhile, the Rossview Hawks are the other team that is ranked top 10 in the state at their division. The Hawks enter the district tournament ranked 8th overall in the state.

While the Wildcats wait to see the outcome of the play-in game, Rossview is set to play and host the Northeast High Eagles on May 4.

Division 1 – District 14 Tournament

The Kenwood High Knights and the Northwest High Vikings are two other Clarksville-area teams set to compete in their respective district tournaments this week.

Kenwood High entered the tournament as the fourth overall seed after compiling the worst record in district play. They will take on the No. 1 overall seed, Dickson County, on Wednesday.

On the flip side, Northwest High entered the tournament as the third overall seed. They will take on the number two overall seed, Henry County, on Wednesday as well.

If Kenwood and Northwest were to lose the opening round of the tournament, they would go onto play one another in an elimination game on Thursday, and the winner would advance for a chance to make it to the district championship game.
