A Celebration of Life service for Barbara Lynn Slate, age 75, of Cumberland Furnace, TN, will be Thursday, June 16, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Sykes Funeral Home. Bro. David Mackens will officiate. Burial will follow at First Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery where she will be laid to rest alongside her late husband, Dwight Slate. The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 15, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. and again on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Barbara was born on March 25, 1947, in Commerce, TX to James and Opal Taylor Brumley. She was received in the arms of our Lord, Jesus Christ on June 11, 2022. Barbara retired from Jay Garment as a seamstress supervisor and enjoyed volunteering at the Cumberland Furnace Community Center. She loved spending time with her family, playing dominoes, and flower gardening.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Gilbert. Barbara is survived by her children, James “Jimmy” Slate and Bridgitte (Mark) Wright; brother, David Brumley; grandchildren: Tiffany, Cody, Zachary, Taylor, and Joey; and 7 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
