CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Clarksville girls basketball jumped out to an early double-digit lead and never looked back Thursday at West Creek. The Lady Wildcats took complete control of the ballgame in the first half before cruising to a 53-16 District 10-AAA win.

Erin Lackey had seven first-half points and continued to show off her scoring prowess, following a 17-point outburst in CHS’s previous contest against Springfield.

Clarksville girls basketball coach Brian Rush was pleased when looking back at the postgame stat sheet, as he wants his team to continue having more of a balanced offensive attack moving forward.

“We’re really trying to get as many as we can up into double digits,” Rush said. “That’s kind of our main focus right now. Erin came out and set the tone for us early and got us off on the right foot.”

Since losing Sydney Weatherford and Destiny Hill due to season-ending injuries, Rush has seen his group come together and rally around one another.

“They’re all trying to figure out what the new roles are,” Rush said. “We’re asking kids to do more than they were expecting to do. I think their closeness and the bonds they share is what has helped them through all of this. We’ve been in every game and we’re figuring out how to win some of them too.”

Alexis Wimberly willed her way to the rim throughout and made numerous tough shots in traffic. Rush believes the sophomore will play a key role for his group during their second-half run.

“When her motor is going, she can really break down a defense,” Rush said. “I think from a confidence standpoint her ballhandling skills are second to none. She’s young and this is her first year on varsity. She’s one of those who we talk about that has to step up and play a whole lot more. So far she’s done a great job at it.”

Lackey and Wimberly tied for a game-high in points with 11 each while Macy Brown chipped in 10 points for Clarksville.

Armani Barnes led the way for West Creek with a team-high five points followed by Alexis Parkes with four points.
