OAK GROVE, KY (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The 11th annual Oak Grove Tourism Butterfly Festival was held Saturday, September 28, on the grounds of the Valor Hall Conference Center at the War Memorial Walking Trail Park.

Approximately 1,400 butterflies were released to an astonished crowd as the grand finale.

The fluttering monarchs took flight and rested on excited onlookers. Children scurried to catch a butterfly and then make a wish as they let it go.

Thousands of people attended the free event. Free activities included a Butterfly House, arts and crafts, live ventriloquist and dog show, face painting, train rides and more.

In 2008, the annual event was created to bring tourism to the city, provide an educational experience for families and celebrate the migration of the monarch butterfly to Mexico.

The award-winning Butterfly Festival is the only one of its kind in Kentucky and the Oak Grove Tourism hosted event is one of the most popular events in the region.
