CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Latoya Vaughn and her daughter, Kyria, were returning home from Petsmart when their macaw, Autumn, went missing. Now the family is offering a $300 reward for the return of her daughter’s best friend.
Vaughn told Clarksville Now that she purchased Autumn, a 6-month-old Catalina macaw, late last year for her Kyria, who has ADHD, as a companion. The two became fast friends.
“We got her the bird to have something to stay focused on that doesn’t judge her, that can give her the attention she needs,” said Vaughn. “She loves all of us, but that’s her best friend.”
Vaughn and Kyria visited Petsmart with Autumn on Thursday to buy bird seed, and they decided to stop by the Riverwalk to take some photos. The wind caught Autumn’s wings, and the chain attached to her harness broke, causing her to fly into some trees on the other side of the Cumberland River.
Autumn was still wearing a harness with leash when last seen. According to Vaughn, macaws tend to stay within a few miles of their home and tend to return to the place they were lost. She is hopeful Autumn will be found.
Vaughn is offering a $300 reward for Autumn’s return. She can be reached via Facebook or at 910-973-6762.
