CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Testimony continued Wednesday in the first-degree murder trial stemming from the 2023 shooting outside Dodge’s on Fort Campbell Boulevard.

Otis Lee Barnes, Maleike Tyree Hamlin and Santanna Antonio Compton McFarlan have pleaded not guilty in the death of Jarlen Corbin, 29.

Autopsy: 6 gunshot wounds, alcohol, THC detected

William McClain, an expert in forensic pathology with Forensic Medical Management Services, testified he performed Corbin’s autopsy on Jan. 29, 2023. McClain said he documented six gunshot wounds and ruled the manner of death a homicide.

Alcohol and THC were detected in Corbin’s blood. His blood alcohol concentration was 0.122, above the legal driving limit of 0.08. “Both of those substances dull you reactions, or slow them down,” McClain testified, adding that neither substance contributed to Corbin’s death.

McClain also talked about the effects of alcohol. “Alcohol can make people more aggressive as they drink more,” he said.

He added that reactions vary by individual and tolerance level. “Generally, for most humans at this concentration they would be uncoordinated, stumbling and slurring words,” he said.

Evidence recovered from hospital, vehicle

Sgt. Clint Sutton with the Clarksville Police Department testified he responded to Tennova Healthcare around 5:30 a.m. the morning of the shooting after a vehicle matching the description of the suspected shooters arrived.

Sutton said he observed a dark-colored Chrysler 300 parked near the ambulance entrance. “I observed a male getting out of the passenger seat,” he testified. “He had a wound on the left side of his face.”

Body camera still images shown in court depicted Barnes at the hospital with a facial wound. Images also showed the Chrysler and a red jacket with white sleeves inside the passenger area. Sutton said it is CPD policy to keep body cameras activated, including while at the hospital.

Cody Heath, a CPD detective who was part of the crime scene team in January 2023 testified he later collected evidence from the Chrysler 300. Heath showed the jurors the shell casings, a red jacket with white sleeves, a black boot and a black beanie he recovered from the vehicle.

He also testified that on Feb. 10, 2023, investigators searched Corbin’s gray Nissan Altima. According to the evidence recovery log, a bag of suspected marijuana was recovered from the car.

Court recessed Wednesday and is scheduled to resume Thursday at 8:30 a.m. at the Montgomery County Courts Center.
