Recapping last week’s action

The first game last week was a home tilt with the Eastern Kentucky Colonels. The Colonels won the first matchup last month, but the Govs kept it competitive.

This was another competitive matchup for the Govs, in which was their final home game of the 2025-26 season. When the first half concluded, the teams were tied at 34 points each.

Unfortunately, the Govs couldn’t get anything going on offense in the second half, and the Colonels couldn’t miss. A seven-point fourth quarter led to the Govs losing 67-54.

It was a quick turnaround for Austin Peay as they traveled to Nashville to take on the Lipscomb Bisons on Friday to wrap up the regular season. The Govs dropped the first meeting between the rivals back in January in Clarksville.

This rematch was a defensive battle as no team scored more than 15 points in any quarter. Ultimately, Jade Rucker’s 18 points off the bench were enough to propel the Govs to a 48-43 win.

With the victory over Lipscomb, the Govs ended the regular season with a 16-12 overall record and an 8-10 mark in conference play.

Govs preparing for ASUN Tournament

The Govs earned the No. 8 seed in the tournament and will now play Lipscomb, the No. 9 seed, in the first round of the ASUN conference tournament. The game will take place in Jacksonville, FL, on Tuesday, March 3, at 11 p.m.

If the Govs can knock off Lipscomb again, they will face top-seeded Eastern Kentucky in the quarterfinals. Austin Peay split the season series with Lipscomb this season and lost both matchups with Eastern Kentucky.

The championship game is slated to be played next Monday at 4 p.m. If the Govs were to win the conference title, it would be the first NCAA Tournament appearance for the program since 2010.
