CLARKSVILLE, TN − The Tennessee Holocaust Commission is sponsoring a unique educational event at Austin Peay State University on Saturday, Feb. 15, focusing on Jewish resistance during the Holocaust.
The program, “Fearless Defiance: Jewish Resistance in the Holocaust,” will feature two speakers, including Austin Peay’s Dr. David R. Snyder and special guest Brendon Rennert, who will join virtually. Rennert is the grandson of Tuvia Bielski, a renowned resistance leader who commanded a partisan unit in Belarus during World War II.
The Bielski partisan group was unique among resistance movements for its commitment to saving Jewish lives, regardless of age or ability to fight. Under Tuvia Bielski’s leadership, the group protected 1,200 Jews by the war’s end, creating what became known as the “Bielsky family camp” in the forests of Belarus.
The event will be held at Austin Peay’s Kimbrough Building from 9 a.m. to noon. Space is limited, and registration is required through Eventbrite.
While open to the public, the event is particularly relevant for educators and those interested in Holocaust education.
