CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Austin Peay Athletics stayed busy this past week as the school captured three OVC championships. It all began earlier in the week with their women’s golf team.

The team came from behind to capture their first-ever OVC championship title on April 19, with an overall score of 901 during tournament play. According to an APSU news release, the team, trailed by more than eight strokes on the back nine.

The site also stated that this was the closest OVC Tournament ever, with three teams separated by just a single shot. The Governors, led by OVC Coach of the Year Jessica Combs, earned an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament with the win. Regional play is scheduled to kick off on May 9 for the Governors.

Austin Peay women’s tennis

The APSU women’s tennis team secured the OVC regular season championship following a win over Tennessee State on April 22. The win marked the program’s fifth time winning the regular season championship. Also, the victory moved their winning streak to 10 matches.

However, it came to an end following a 3-4 loss against Murray State a day after they clinched the OVC Championship. Nevertheless, the women’s tennis team is headed into the OVC tournament with the No. 1 overall seed. They earned a first round bye and will face the winner of Murray State and Southern Illinois in the semi-finals. The Governors enter tournament play with an overall record of 10-6, which included a record of 6-1 against conference foes.

Austin Peay beach volleyball

Austin Peay beach volleyball clinched the program’s first-ever OVC regular season championship after defeating Eastern Illinois on April 23. The Governors share the honor of being regular season champions with UT Martin.

According to the program’s Twitter page, several tiebreakers decided that UT Martin will enter the OVC tournament as the No. 1 seed. This means the school earned a first round bye. Austin Peay will enter tournament play as the second seed. They are scheduled to face-off against Chattanooga on Thursday, April 28.
